Elopement in the Berchtesgadener Alps

Sometimes, being flexible and spontaneous means scratching all your previously made plans because your kids desperately want to do another hike and enjoy the beautiful views on top of a mountain (and hop on a gondola, of course)

J&Y had the whole day of their elopement in the Berchtesgadener Alps planned out and we even had several backup plans in case the weather forecast turned out to be true (a rainy and cloudy day). But none of that happened and we started the day with beautiful sunshine and not a single cloud to be seen. The two of them had decided to make their elopement into a family holiday and thus, rented a small little chalet just around the corner of the famous Koenigssee. We met Y there and he was so excited for the day and couldn’t wait to see J in her wedding dress for the first time. For this special moment we drove a few miles and stopped at a spot on which you have a wonderful overview of the valley and the Berchtesgadener Alps (Watzmann included). They fully enjoyed that special experience with their kids before we drove off to the town centre where they got officially married.

After that we originally planned to explore the valley of the Berchtesgadener Alps but their two kids had other plans in mind and so we spontaneously decided scratch all those plans and do an adventurous hike instead. At first, we stopped at an Alpine Lake with stunning views before hopping on to the gondola to go all the way to the top. We know this area pretty well so we were able to guide them and find the perfect spot where they could exchange their private vows without a single soul listening. Have you ever seen a more beautiful spot for committing your lives to each other?

And although the day was already filled with many adventures we decided to hike along the trails, overlooking the Berchtesgadener Alps before stopping at an alpine hut for some much needed refreshments – there was still no rain to be seen as originally forecasted. After our break we headed back to the gondola and our day ended with the kids playing at a nearby playground, still full of energy.
